How non-coding RNAs shape nuclear structure to regulate gene expression

نویسندگان

چکیده

The nucleus is a highly organized arrangement of RNA, DNA, and protein molecules that are compartmentalized within three-dimensional (3D) structures involved in shared functional regulatory processes. Although RNA has long been proposed to play global role organizing nuclear structure, exploring this remained challenge because no existing methods can simultaneously measure DNA contacts 3D structures. To address this, we developed & SPRITE (RD-SPRITE) comprehensively map the spatial organization all RNAs relative DNA.

How to detect non-coding RNAs ?

Structured non-coding RNAs have a very important functional role in the cell. They are involved in a variety of processes such as transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation, chromosome replication, RNA processing and modification, protein degradation and translocation. Current research for annotation of eukaryotic genomes show that there is a need for novel tools that are able to ident...

Long non-coding RNAs: modulators of nuclear structure and function.

Long non-coding (lnc)RNAs are emerging key factors in the regulation of various cellular processes. In the nucleus, these include the organization of nuclear sub-structures, the alteration of chromatin state, and the regulation of gene expression through the interaction with effector proteins and modulation of their activity. Collectively, lncRNAs form the core of attractive models explaining a...

Many long intergenic non-coding RNAs distally regulate mRNA gene expression levels

Long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNA) are members of a class of non-protein-coding RNA transcript that has recently been shown to contribute to gene regulatory processes and disease etiology. It has been hypothesized that lincRNAs influence disease risk through the regulation of mRNA transcription [88], possibly by interacting with regulatory proteins such as chromatin-modifying complexes [...

The Role of Long Non-Coding RNAs in Ovarian Cancer

Background: Ovarian cancer is the most fatal tumor of female's reproductive system, and several genetics and environmental factors are involved in its development. Various studies have already identified suitable biomarkers to facilitate the early detection, prognosis evaluation, and the assessment of treatment response. However, the aim of this review was to investigate the role of long non-co...

Diverse functions of nuclear non-coding RNAs in eukaryotic gene expression.

Recent genome-wide analyses revealed that eukaryotic genomes are almost entirely transcribed, generating a large number of short or long non-protein coding RNAs (non-coding RNAs; ncRNAs). Rapidly accumulating experimental evidence suggests that ncRNAs are not just transcriptional noise, but have biological roles in gene expression. In this review, we focus on the functions of nuclear-localized ...
